During my career I have been a workaholic but following my breast cancer diagnosis I had a massive re-think about my life. Having to take a year out in 2022 to undergo a mastectomy and chemotherapy had a massive impact – not only on my physical self but my mental health too. I had 46 weddings booked for 2022 and my diagnosis stopped that, but I was blessed to have incredible photographers around me who picked up my workload to avoid disappointing my couples.
During my year of treatment, I had the realisation that life is short, and we never know what is around the corner. Don’t get me wrong, I cannot afford to retire and do nothing, I absolutely adore what I do but would like to have a better work life balance. In order to achieve this, I need to limit the number of weddings I shoot each year. The side effects of my medication leave me tired and my bones ache – Breast Cancer, the gift that keeps on giving lol!
My fiancé and are in the process of buying a small holiday home in Peyia, Paphos in Cyprus. We are hoping to be able to stay there during the spring and autumn when it is not too hot. House buying over there is a long slow process, but we believe it will be through by May 2024. This gives me a fantastic opportunity to photograph weddings in this idyllic sunny setting. Once again, I intend to limit myself to one per week maximum so I can continue to offer the very best service and not feel the pain of carrying heavy cameras!
So, if you are getting married in Cyprus and wish to employ me then please get in touch. I will be developing packages to suit the timings there as most weddings happen late afternoon to avoid the extreme heat. Employing me may be cheaper than flying a photographer over and putting them up in a hotel with expenses paid. I am really looking forward to this new chapter of my life.
