When Covid 19 sent the world into lockdown the wedding industry dried up overnight. 2020 was my busiest year by far. I had decided in 2019 that I had shot too many weddings and intended to cap 2020. but as I struggle to say “no” to anyone I overstretched myself. Weddings daily changed to later in the year and 2021. I finished the year with a wedding in February and a small intimate COVID-19 secure wedding in October. This lack of work and income left me thinking outside the box. In the past I have shot commercially on a small scale but now I had much more time to cover this exciting and different aspect of photography.
I invested in new lenses with my lockdown arts grant and was approached by many small independent businesses to shoot their premises and stock. It has been very fulfilling to look at unfamiliar items and make them look as good as I can. I have fully photographed the Gwydyr Hotel on three separate occasions. One of my favourite things to shoot over in Betws Y Coed was the food as I got to eat it too! A perk of the job!
I was then commissioned to photograph The Beaches Hotel right on my doorstep here in Prestatyn where I have had many lovely weddings. They were updating their whole website and wanted photographs of all kinds of local attractions in my hometown. Once again, photographing items off the menu was my favourite part..
So, from classic cars for a specialist magazine, our local MP, new High Street shops, home interior designs and model portfolio shoots, I have loved doing them all. My gallery shows off a few of my favourites.
